What a picture is worth

It's that old saying, "A picture's worth a thousand words." True, I believe, in many cases. Sometimes when you take a picture it's at the perfect moment. It's not always the clearest picture; not always the best composed picture; not always what you were hoping to get. But sometimes, just sometimes, the picture turns out WAY better than you could have thought. Such was the case with this picture:
Let me set it up for you...it was Big Papa's birthday and we were at J's parents' house to have dinner and celebrate. Dinner was done and it was time for heaps of presents the present (that's what happens as you get older...one present to open!). As Papa opened it, it became clear that it was wrapped in a diaper box.
"Diapers?! I get diapers for my birthday?!" And, SNAP, I took the picture. I just love everything about this picture. I love that you see the diaper box. I love that you see Big Papa with his mouth wide open. I love that A and C are giggling belly laughing at what Big Papa said because the sentence involved the word diapers. I love that Cousin Aaron is looking at C with the look of, "Wow. Something really funny just happened. Look at this kid next to me. He's really laughing!"

I know it's a bit blurry. That's what I get for not liking a flash when I take pictures. But everything else about this picture is absolutely priceless. It really goes with the saying, "A picture is worth a thousand words." Did I write one thousand about it yet? Well, maybe not, but I think about something new every time I look at it. Joy. Love. Laughter. Awe. Happiness. There. Another 5 words! You never know when you get a picture like this and I didn't know until I went back to look at it. Love it. Everything about it!

  1. What a wonderful slice. I love how you crossed out words and created a different sense of the occasion. The thinking in the heads of the little ones if fun too. You do have a lot of thoughts and stories from one pictures. Thanks for the reminder.
