Friends...our friends

It's always good to get together with friends. Good friends. True friends. Real friends. Like "real." Like they get you and you get them. Do you have those kinds of friends? We do. We saw them tonight Saturday. For the first time in forever! I see Jordi, but it's very rare that we all get together meaning kids, husbands and wives. But tonight we made that work. And I'm so glad we did!

This post started out with the title of "Homemade Spaghetti." It was going to be that because while with Jordi and Marcus we made homemade spaghetti with their kids. But then I started writing and realized I started writing nothing about spaghetti. So that's another post for another day. Clearly our friends are on my mind.

Sometimes when you get together with old friends you realize how easy it can be to be with them. Sometimes you really forget what is most important to you as a parent, as an adult, as a Christian, as a _____ (fill in the blank). See, when we were with them, everything was easy. Their boys are first and third graders and our kids absolutely adore them. Everyone got along well, wrestled a bit, played hockey used a mini hockey stick for the first time ever, played the Wii, ate together, talked together...it was very harmonious for everyone.

In conversation with Marcus and Jordi things came so easily. We talked sports. We talked school. We talked church. We talked travel. We talked about all of the regular things. But even the regular things just felt so good normal regular. So hard to describe. As J and I drove home we talked about just how much we have in common with them. Values, kids, goals, plans...there really are quite a few things.

Even though it had been a while since we had all been together again, we picked up right where we left off. It all started in the college days and still continues now. So thankful and blessed to have friends like this!

  1. These are the best kinds of friends to have. The easy ones, where just being together is enough.
